Following growing concerns over cases of kidnapping and armed robbery in Ogwashi-Uku, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in the area and directed the immediate deployment of tactical teams to strategic locations to curb the rising insecurity.
The decision follows multiple complaints circulating on WhatsApp and other social media platforms regarding the security situation in Ogwashi-Uku. In response, Abaniwonda has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Aina Adesola, to oversee the deployment, while the Area Commander in Ogwashi-Uku will coordinate the operation.
To enhance security, operatives from Dragon Patrol, Eagle-Net, and the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have been stationed at various critical points across the area. Additionally, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad (SAKCCS) has been mandated to relocate to Ogwashi-Uku and conduct intelligence-driven policing to track and apprehend suspected kidnappers and armed robbers. The State Intelligence Department (SID) has also been tasked with undercover surveillance and intelligence gathering to support the operation.
Abaniwonda reassured residents of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all citizens in Delta State. He urged members of the public to remain vigilant, go about their lawful activities without fear, and promptly report any suspicious movement or individuals to the police.
