The Delta State Police Command has assured residents of a safe and hitch-free Christmas celebration with the deployment of security personnel across the state. Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, announced this in a press release, emphasizing the Command’s commitment to ensuring the protection of lives and properties during the festive season.

The CP has directed a large-scale deployment of officers to strategic locations and celebration venues to prevent any form of criminal activity. Tactical units including Dragon Patrol, Safer Highways, Quick Response Squad, Rapid Response Squad, and Eagle-Net Special Squad have been positioned at key locations such as the Asaba-Onitsha Head Bridge, Anwai Campus Gate to Illah, and other major routes like Asaba-Agbor Expressway, Abraka-Eku Road, and Asaba-Kwale/Ughelli Road.

In the Asaba metropolis, flashpoints like Summit Junction, Inter-Bau Roundabout, Federal Medical Center Roundabout, and Ogbe-Ogonogo Market will witness heightened police presence. Additional deployments have been made to Government House Gate, Coker Junction, and Federal College Junction by Nnebisi Road, among others.

For traffic control, police personnel and traffic wardens have been stationed at the busy Head Bridge area, with Divisional Police Officers of ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions in Asaba collaborating with the State Traffic Officer to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles. In Warri, the DPOs of Ekpan and Ebrumede Divisions have been tasked with managing security and traffic at the DSC and Effurun roundabouts.

Marine police units have also been deployed to waterways in Escravos, Burutu, and Warri to counter sea piracy and protect traders and travelers. The CP emphasized the importance of these efforts in maintaining the safety of Delta State’s water routes.

Additionally, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations has been directed to organize a continuous “Operation Show of Force,” beginning on December 22, 2024, to further deter criminal activities and ensure a peaceful festive period.

Commissioner Abaniwonda called on residents to remain law-abiding and collaborate with the police in their fight against crime. He assured the public of the Command’s dedication to maintaining security and safeguarding lives and properties.

On behalf of the Delta State Police Command, the CP extended warm wishes to all Deltans and Nigerians for a joyous and peaceful Christmas celebration.
