The Delta State Police Command has extended its condolences to the family of 23-year-old Miss Precious Yusuf, whose body was discovered on DLA Road opposite Falcon Club in Asaba on October 24, 2024. The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, has assured the family and the public that a thorough investigation is underway, pledging to ensure that justice is served.
According to a statement from the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the tragic incident was reported on October 24 at around 8:40 a.m. when a distress call alerted authorities to the location where Miss Yusuf’s body was found. The Divisional Police Officer of ‘A’ Division Asaba, CSP Rex Abiodun, swiftly responded, leading a team of police operatives to the scene.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Miss Yusuf had informed a friend on October 22 that she was visiting a male acquaintance she had met on the iHappy dating website. She departed for Coka to meet him but, despite confirming her journey home on October 23 at approximately 7:30 a.m., she did not make it back, and her body was discovered the following day.
Her remains have been transferred to the mortuary, where an autopsy will be conducted to aid the investigation. CP Olufemi Abaniwonda expressed a commitment to uncovering the circumstances surrounding Miss Yusuf’s death, urging patience from the public as police work diligently on the case.
The Police Commissioner also issued a strong advisory to young women, urging caution in relationships initiated on dating websites and other social media platforms. He emphasized the importance of exercising vigilance when meeting individuals in person.
