Operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) in Delta State have made significant breakthroughs in the fight against cultism, armed robbery, and illegal arms trading, arresting several suspects and recovering weapons in a series of sting operations.
In a statement released by the Delta State Police Command, the arrests were made following credible intelligence and coordinated efforts across multiple locations, including Sapele, Oghara, Warri, and Jesse.
On February 3, 2025, at about 1:45 p.m., CP-SAT operatives arrested a suspected cultist and gun runner, 25-year-old Stephen Oma Odu, in Sapele town. His confession led to the arrest of another suspected cultist, 42-year-old Abel Festus, also known as “Tompolo,” in Oghara town. A search of Festus’ apartment led to the recovery of two pump-action guns and 24 rounds of live cartridges.
Further investigation resulted in the arrest of two other suspected cultists—Godspower Moses, alias “Power,” from Kokori Community, and 24-year-old Oloriode Owebe from Oghareki Community. Preliminary findings linked them to the Vikings Confraternity.
On March 9, 2025, at about 2:30 p.m., police operatives, acting on intelligence, raided the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Joshua Bogbon Godwell in Okpe Local Government Area. A fabricated Beretta pistol with a single live round, intended for delivery to a client in Sapele, was recovered.
During interrogation, Mrs. Uche Joshua admitted to serving as a dispatcher for her husband, delivering illegal arms to clients in Warri and Sapele. Further investigation led to the arrest of 30-year-old Junior Moses Ogedegbe of Useifurun Community in Ughelli South, identified as an associate of the couple. Efforts to track down other members of the syndicate and recover more arms are ongoing.
In an effort to curb the rising cases of cult-related kidnappings in Mosogar and surrounding areas, CP-SAT operatives stormed Jesse and Mosogar towns on March 9, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m., leading to the arrest of 26-year-old Festus Oboyo from Igbopa Community, a suspected kidnapper and internet fraudster. A locally made cut-to-size gun with a single cartridge was recovered from his possession.
A further search of his residence uncovered an “FBI” impersonation document allegedly used in his cyber fraud activities. Two of his suspected accomplices, Favor Omowo, alias “Voltage,” 29, and 26-year-old Gift Omowo, both from Jesse Community, were also arrested. Police are currently tracking other fleeing members of the gang.
The Delta State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to combating crime and urged the public to provide useful information that could lead to further arrests.
