The Dangote Group has dismissed recent claims by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that it sells Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to the state-owned corporation at N898 per litre. In a statement released on September 15, 2024, Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of Dangote Group, called the allegations “misleading and mischievous,” asserting that they aim to undermine the company’s recent strides in addressing Nigeria’s long-standing energy insufficiency.

Chiejina clarified that the pricing issue will be formally addressed by the Technical Sub-Committee on Naira-based crude sales to local refineries, which was appointed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The committee is set to announce the official pricing on October 1, 2024. He noted that Dangote’s current crude stock was procured in U.S. dollars, and the company had sold its petroleum products to NNPCL at a significant discount compared to current import costs.

The Dangote Group assured Nigerians that their actions will lead to a stable supply of petrol across the country, including the most remote areas. “We assure Nigerians of the availability of quality petroleum products, putting an end to the endemic fuel scarcity in the country,” the statement read.

The Dangote Refinery, a key player in Nigeria’s efforts to improve energy security, has been seen as a major step towards reducing the country’s dependence on imported fuel.

The Dangote Group urged Nigerians to disregard the false claims and remain patient as official pricing details are expected soon.
