In a significant effort to address the prevailing hunger crisis in Nigeria, Aliko Dangote, the President of the Dangote Group, has initiated a food intervention programme aimed at providing relief to vulnerable communities nationwide. The launch of this initiative underscores Dangote’s commitment to alleviating economic hardships and fostering compassion during the holy month of Ramadan.

The food intervention programme, spearheaded by the Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF), is set to cost close to N15 billion and commenced with the distribution of over one million bags of 10kg rice across the 774 local government areas of the 36 states and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Nigeria.

During the official flag-off ceremony held in Kano, Aliko Dangote emphasized the imperative of collective action in supporting the government’s efforts to mitigate hunger and alleviate economic challenges. He underscored the values of compassion and solidarity, stating that stakeholders must unite to ensure the welfare of all citizens.

The distribution modalities of the programme involve collaboration with state and local governments, as well as local community partners, to ensure equitable delivery of rice to vulnerable populations across the country. Additionally, ADF will distribute 10,000 iftar meals in Kano Municipality during Ramadan, complementing its ongoing bread relief programme that provides over 32,000 family-size loaves of bread daily in Kano and Lagos States since 2020.

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, commended Aliko Dangote for his philanthropic gesture, urging other wealthy Nigerians to emulate his example and support government efforts in providing palliatives to alleviate economic hardships.

Fatima Aliko Dangote, Group Executive Director, Commercial, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting vulnerable Nigerians, emphasizing the foundation’s tradition of impactful philanthropy. She highlighted the Dangote Group’s investments in food fortification across the Nigerian food industry as part of its broader nutrition strengthening initiatives.

The Aliko Dangote Foundation’s humanitarian relief efforts span nutrition and health, education, and economic empowerment, not only in Nigeria but also across Africa and globally. Through direct interventions and strategic partnerships, the foundation continues to make significant strides in addressing inequality and poverty.

The foundation calls on all well-meaning Nigerians to extend their support to the less privileged and disadvantaged members of society, emphasizing the importance of collective action and social responsibility in finding lasting solutions to societal challenges.

Furthermore, the foundation urges governments at all levels to prioritize policies and initiatives aimed at fostering economic growth, job creation, and poverty reduction. By creating an enabling environment for private enterprises, governments can stimulate investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship, thereby contributing to sustainable development and prosperity.
