The Ogun II Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has achieved an extraordinary growth in revenue, amounting to N9,260,033,178.55, from January to May 2023.

This remarkable accomplishment was announced by the Acting Customs Area Controller, DC Ahmadu Shuaibu, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Compared to the corresponding period in 2021, the Command experienced a significant increase of 25.44 percent in revenue. This surge in earnings during the first five months of 2023 is unprecedented in the history of the Ogun II Command.

DC Shuaibu attributed this exceptional growth to the Command’s focused efforts to encourage compliance with government policies on Excise Duties payment, particularly from factories.

One of the key strategies employed by the Command was the prioritization of consistent engagement with stakeholders.

“The command has also ensured efficiency in service performance by promoting Customs officers’ working conditions and prioritizing training and sensitization programs,” DC Shuaibu said.

He stated that the Ogun II Command has the responsibility of overseeing Excise and Free Trade zone monitoring. Based on statistics, the Command is in charge of 57 excise factories within its jurisdiction.

However, out of these factories, only 36 are operating at full capacity, while 11 are undergoing documentation, and the remaining 10 are inactive.

Additionally, he mentioned that the Command manages two Free Trade zones: Guandong free trade zone situated in Ibesa, and Ceeplas in Sagamu.
