Customs Officers’ Wives Association Distributes BP Monitors To Over 200 Beneficiaries To Promote Health Awareness

In a significant health initiative, Mrs. Kikelomo Adeniyi, National President of the Customs Officers’ Wives Association (COWA) and wife of the Comptroller-General of Customs, distributed over 200 upper arm blood pressure monitors to officers of the Nigeria Customs Service and members of COWA. This event, held at the Nigeria Customs Service Headquarters in Abuja, coincided with World Hypertension Day 2024.

During the commemoration, Mrs. Adeniyi highlighted the importance of monitoring blood pressure as a preventive measure against hypertension. “This initiative is part of COWA’s effort to encourage the wives of Customs officers to keep their families healthy,” she stated. Emphasizing the World Hypertension Day theme, “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It & Live Longer,” she underscored the need for awareness and proactive health management.

Hypertension, a chronic condition contributing to various diseases, was described by Mrs. Adeniyi as a “silent killer.” However, she reassured attendees that it is both preventable and manageable with early detection and proper care. She urged all Customs officers’ wives to motivate their spouses to regularly monitor their health using simple tools like manual or digital blood pressure monitors.

Representing the Comptroller-General of Customs, Festus Okun, Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Finance and Administration, commended Mrs. Adeniyi for her efforts in health advocacy. He praised the initiative as humanitarian and reaffirmed the Customs Service’s support for COWA’s endeavors. DCG Okun also acknowledged the critical role of COWA in enhancing the welfare of Customs officers’ families, encouraging them to follow health experts’ advice to prevent hypertension.

The event, attended by high-ranking officials including Deputy Comptroller-Generals, Assistant Comptroller-Generals, officers, their families, and COWA National Executives, aimed to strengthen collective efforts against hypertension and foster a healthier society.

This year’s World Hypertension Day theme, “Measure Your Blood Pressure Accurately, Control It and Live Longer,” served as a reminder of the importance of accurate health monitoring and management.
