Customs Chief Extends Gratitude To Vice President Kashim Shettima, Discusses NCS Goals For 2024

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, orchestrated a gesture of appreciation coupled with strategic discourse during a visit to His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima GCON, at the State House.

This significant meeting, held on January 5, 2024, served as an opportunity for the CGC to convey gratitude to Vice President Shettima for his keynote address on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR at the recently concluded 2023 CGC’s conference in Lagos. The conference tackled pivotal issues and strategies vital to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), contributing significantly to improving customs operations.

Comptroller General Adeniyi utilized the visit to brief Vice President Shettima comprehensively on the outcomes and resolutions achieved during the CGC’s conference. Discussions encompassed a broad spectrum of topics crucial to customs operations, trade facilitation, and combatting illicit trade.

In addition to expressing gratitude, the CGC seized the moment to seek Vice President Shettima’s support in realizing the NCS mandate of attaining a remarkable N5.0 trillion revenue target in 2024. This ambitious goal aims to bolster revenue generation and augment the NCS’s role in the nation’s economic progress.

The meeting underscored the NCS’s commitment to fostering collaboration with key stakeholders in both the government and private sector, amplifying efforts toward mutual development.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, recognizing the pivotal role of Customs in national development, pledged continuous support for the NCS in achieving its set mandates. He commended the CGC for the initiatives undertaken and affirmed his commitment to facilitating the NCS’s objectives.
