In a renewed effort to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and improve Nigeria’s fiscal landscape, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, on Wednesday, 7th May 2025, hosted the Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, at the Customs Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja.
The meeting, described as strategic and symbolic, marked a significant step toward enhancing synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in the areas of national revenue generation, training, and public financial management.
Welcoming the AGF and his delegation, CGC Adeniyi underscored the critical role of the Accountant-General’s office in managing Nigeria’s revenue system. He noted that the visit comes at a time when inter-agency cooperation is most needed to address the country’s economic challenges and bridge fiscal gaps through innovation and operational efficiency.
“We have seen how critical revenue generation is in this country, and we are doing our best from our part,” Adeniyi stated. “Looking at how the Service was able to increase its revenue by over 70% before the end of 2024, it is a demonstration of our resolve to support government’s financial stability.”
He congratulated Mr. Ogunjimi on his recent appointment as Accountant-General of the Federation and commended his forward-thinking approach to fostering partnerships between federal institutions.
In response to the AGF’s proposal to establish a joint training platform for personnel of both organisations, the CGC expressed strong support. He affirmed that such a move would deepen mutual understanding, improve inter-agency cooperation, and enhance the overall performance of public service delivery.
AGF Shamsudeen Ogunjimi, in his remarks, appreciated the Customs leadership for the warm reception and acknowledged the remarkable strides made by the Service in revenue mobilization. He praised CGC Adeniyi’s leadership as strategic and results-driven.
“This collaboration has just started, and I want to assure you that it is going to be robust,” Ogunjimi said. “I also wish to request that we bring on board some of your officers to be engaged in training programs that will strengthen inter-agency understanding and cooperation.”
He further pledged the commitment of his office to promoting transparency, accountability, and capacity building within the framework of Nigeria’s public finance management system.
The courtesy visit concluded with both parties expressing optimism that the new partnership will yield long-term benefits for national economic growth and institutional development.
