The Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the sudden death of Commissioner of Police (CP) Abdulwaheed Ayilara, who was serving as the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State.
In a statement issued by CRAN President Olalekan Olabulo, the association described the late CP Ayilara as an exceptional officer who exemplified the highest values of the Nigeria Police Force. His unwavering commitment to justice, excellence, and compassion was evident throughout his distinguished career.
During his tenure as Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba, Lagos, and as acting Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Police Command, CP Ayilara was widely respected for his open-door policy and progressive approach to policing. His accessible nature and liberal mindset earned him admiration from both his colleagues and the communities he served. His leadership left a lasting impact on the Lagos State Police Command prior to his promotion to CP and subsequent deployment to Akwa Ibom State.
CRAN highlighted CP Ayilara as a shining example of a fine officer and a true gentleman, whose legacy as a mentor and champion of justice will be remembered by many. The association noted that his passing leaves a significant void in the Nigeria Police Force, one that will be difficult to fill.
The association also recalled how CP Ayilara showed no signs of illness during a recent interaction with CRAN members at the Pull Out Parade of the immediate past Secretary of the Nigeria Police Force, AIG Yetunde Longe (rtd), just days before his untimely death. His unexpected passing has sent shockwaves through the police community and the nation at large.
CRAN extends its heartfelt condolences to the Ayilara family, the Nigeria Police Force, and the people of Akwa Ibom State. The association emphasized that CP Ayilara’s contributions to the police force and his commitment to justice will never be forgotten, and they called on other officers to be inspired by his legacy of integrity and dedication.
