In a move signaling the expansion of consumer credit access to Nigerian civil servants, Engr. Uzoma Nwagba, the Managing Director and CEO of CREDICORP, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to empowering citizens through access to life-enhancing goods and services. The consumer credit scheme, which has already reached 25,000 beneficiaries, is aimed at improving the standard of living by providing affordable financing options.
Engr. Nwagba’s assurance came during a recent working visit organized by the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Madam Didi Esther Walson-Jack. At the meeting, he highlighted CREDICORP’s impact in making credit available to civil servants and introduced the Corporation’s newly launched CALM Fund, an initiative specifically tailored to facilitate access to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) conversions and solar panel installations. The CALM Fund is expected to offer civil servants environmentally sustainable energy solutions while reducing household energy costs.
In discussing the goals for the initiative, Engr. Nwagba expressed optimism about scaling the program to reach more beneficiaries. He stated that CREDICORP aims to extend credit access to at least 400,000 civil servants by the second quarter of 2025. Additionally, efforts to expand access to the general public are already underway, broadening the scope of the credit program beyond the civil service.
The visit underscored CREDICORP’s ongoing engagement with the civil service as part of its mission to drive economic empowerment and contribute to the federal government’s vision of financial inclusion and consumer credit for Nigerians.
