CP Orutugu Presents ₦8 Million Cheques To Families of Fallen Officers, Honours Heroes of The Force

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, on Thursday, June 27, 2025, honoured officers of the Anambra State Police Command who paid the supreme price in the line of duty, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to personnel welfare and national service.

During the Command’s Monthly Meeting held at the CP’s Conference Hall, State Headquarters in Awka, CP Orutugu presented cheques worth over ₦8 million to the families of 13 deceased officers under the Group Life Assurance Scheme and the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme.

Among the honoured personnel was an inspector who tragically lost his life due to a mistaken identity incident involving a fellow officer at a police observation point along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway, near Danaks Fuel Station.

The CP stated that the gesture, initiated by the Inspector-General of Police, underscores the Force’s unwavering commitment to supporting the families of fallen heroes. He advised the recipients to use the funds judiciously and invest in ventures that will provide long-term support for the dependents left behind.

“This initiative is not just about compensation; it is a message that the Nigerian Police Force will never forget the sacrifices of its gallant men and women,” CP Orutugu said. “We encourage every officer to remain resolute in the discharge of their duties, knowing their efforts and sacrifices are recognised.”

The meeting also featured briefings by Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers, who provided security updates from their respective jurisdictions. The CP reviewed the current security landscape in the state and charged officers to double down on efforts to maintain law and order.

Lectures were delivered by various stakeholders, including representatives from an insurance company, the officer in charge of the Police National Housing Fund, the officer in charge of pensions, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Anietie Eyoh, who gave an insightful presentation on operational strategy.

Reiterating his commitment to peace and security, CP Orutugu assured Ndi Anambra that the Command would continue to implement proactive strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents.
