The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed an immediate reorganization of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and approved the establishment of a Political Desk Unit to enhance intelligence gathering and security operations in the state.
During a strategic meeting with sectional heads of the CID on Saturday, March 29, 2025, CP Orutugu emphasized the need to strengthen the investigative capacity of officers in response to emerging crime trends. The newly created Political Desk Unit will be responsible for monitoring political developments, conducting threat assessments, implementing risk management strategies, and ensuring security during political campaigns and other sensitive activities.
As part of efforts to modernize the CID, the Commissioner proposed the acquisition of advanced forensic equipment to improve evidence analysis, enhance suspect profiling, and increase efficiency in crime scene investigations. This initiative, he noted, aligns with global best practices in criminal investigations.
“The CID Awka remains the apex investigative unit of the Command, playing a crucial role in maintaining law and order. Regular engagement with CID leadership will provide valuable insights into operational challenges and successes, ultimately enhancing the effectiveness of the Anambra State Police Command,” CP Orutugu stated.
Reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive policing and professional excellence, the Commissioner assured residents of Anambra State of continued efforts to ensure their safety and security.
