CP Orutugu Condemns Attack on Vigilante Operatives In Umunze, Urges Community Support

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc, MNIPS, PhD, has strongly condemned the attack on vigilante operatives in Umunze Community, Orumba South Local Government Area.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, saw suspected armed men storm the vigilante office, setting five operational vehicles ablaze and inflicting significant damage to the facility. One of the vigilante operatives reportedly sustained fatal injuries during a gun duel with the assailants, while part of the office was also burned.

In response, a Police-led Joint Security Force has swiftly taken control of the scene and launched ongoing onslaught operations in the area to track down the perpetrators.

CP Orutugu emphasized the importance of community involvement, urging residents of Umunze and neighboring areas to provide credible and timely information that could aid investigations and ensure that those behind the violent act are brought to book.

“We condemn this senseless act of violence and remain committed to ensuring that justice is served. We call on members of the public to support the Police-led team already deployed to the area. Your cooperation is vital to restoring peace and security,” he stated.

The Police Command assures the public of its resolve to maintain law and order and will continue to update the public on the progress of the investigation.
