The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc MNIPS PhD, has urged Christian and Muslim faithful to align their faith together in observance of Ash Wednesday and Ramadan, emphasizing the need for prayers for the nation and the promotion of peace.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 5, 2025, CP Orutugu highlighted the shared themes of repentance, self-reflection, and spiritual growth that characterize both Ash Wednesday and Ramadan. He encouraged believers to uphold the values of love, forgiveness, and tolerance, fostering harmony among different religious communities in the state.
“Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a solemn period of prayer, fasting, and repentance for Christians, leading up to Easter. Similarly, Ramadan is a sacred month for Muslims, dedicated to fasting, spiritual reflection, and devotion,” he noted.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Anambra State Police Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, assuring residents that the force is continually evolving new strategies to address emerging security challenges. He urged the public to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and supportive of security agencies in the fight against criminal activities.
The memorial was marked by a church service at the Anambra State Police Command Headquarters, featuring the application of ashes on the foreheads of Christian faithful.
