The Commissioner of Police (CP) Nnaghe Obono Itam has issued a stern warning to drivers and transporters to conduct thorough vehicle checks before traveling, particularly during the Ember month period. This caution follows a tragic motor accident that occurred today at approximately 7:15 a.m. along the Onitsha-Enugu Old Road near the Oye Agu junction in Abagana.
The collision involved a Toyota Sienna vehicle, which, due to brake failure, veered off course and crashed into roadside traders. The accident resulted in the death of a five-year-old girl and left four other individuals with serious injuries.
CP Itam expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased and directed the immediate arrest and interrogation of the driver involved. The vehicle has been recovered and is currently at the police station as investigations continue.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Police Command, emphasized the importance of vehicle safety checks to prevent such tragedies.
