CP Fayoade Addresses Alleged Assault On Lawyer By Police Officer

In response to a tweet by lawyer Timothy Olamide Olaniyi alleging assault by a police officer within the Lagos State Command headquarters, Commissioner of Police (CP) Adegoke Fayoade took swift action, meeting with the complainant to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate measures.

The incident occurred around 0930 hours when the lawyer encountered police officers from outside Lagos State taking over suspects arrested by the Lagos State Command. CP Fayoade has initiated an identification parade for the visiting police officers to facilitate the complainant’s identification of the officer involved.

The Lagos State Police Command has maintained close communication with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) leadership, particularly Chukwuka Ikwuazom SAN, who heads the Security Agencies Relations Committee (SARC). The NBA has received assurance that the Command is committed to uncovering the responsible officer and applying necessary sanctions, condemning the alleged misconduct as contrary to the ethics of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Command, through its spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, encourages Lagosians to utilize the Complaint Response Unit (lagos.npf.gov.ng) or contact senior officers through publicized phone numbers to report any grievances against police actions.

CP Fayoade affirms the commitment of the Lagos State Police Command to transparency and accountability in addressing misconduct within its ranks. The investigation will proceed with diligence, and disciplinary measures will be taken promptly based on the findings.
