The Delta State Police Command, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi, has recorded significant successes in its ongoing efforts to combat crime in the state. Through intelligence-driven policing strategies, the command recently made key arrests and recovered dangerous weapons, further demonstrating its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
1. Arrest of Suspected Kidnappers: On October 31, 2023, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Orerokpe, CSP Paul Oboware, received a distress call regarding the suspected kidnapping of an individual by armed assailants. Following the incident, the DPO mobilized detectives and initiated a thorough investigation. On March 5, 2024, the relentless efforts of the command led to the arrest of two male suspects, Peter Idogor and Emmanuel Sunday, both residents of Evwreni Community in Ughelli South. These suspects were linked to the abduction, and one of the victims positively identified them. The command continues its pursuit of the remaining gang members involved in the crime.
2. Arrest of Suspected Cultists/Armed Robbers and Weapon Recovery: On March 6, 2024, the CP – DECOY Squad, acting on credible intelligence regarding cultist activities, raided a hotel near Federal College Junction, Asaba. Four suspected cultists were apprehended after attempting to flee. They were identified as Chigozie Edwin, James Prince Chukwuebuka, Harmony Mkemjika Ohanebum, and Garba Jubril. Additionally, the raid resulted in the recovery of two Beretta Pistols, a locally made cut-to-size Gun, and ammunition hidden in the ceiling. Efforts are underway to locate and apprehend other members of the gang.
In response to these achievements, Commissioner of Police Abaniwonda Olufemi emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to combating criminal activities in Delta State. He warned potential offenders of the severe consequences they would face and urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement authorities to maintain peace and security in the state.
