The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of one of the industry’s most revered figures, Dr. Obicee Okonkwo, describing him as a distinguished maritime practitioner and a cherished friend of the media.

In a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Mcanthony Onuoha, CONMMEP paid glowing tribute to Dr. Okonkwo, recalling his charisma, good humor, and unwavering professionalism, which left lasting impressions at various industry fora.

“Dr. Okonkwo was a jolly good fellow whose exceptional sense of humor and admirable personality endeared him to the Congress. He was not just a professional of repute, but also a father figure to many in the maritime media, often offering wise counsel and encouragement,” the statement read.

The group highlighted his impactful tenure as the National Publicity Secretary (NPS) of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), noting that he elevated the image of the Public Relations Department with dignity and style.

“Dr. Okonkwo brought glamour and renewed impetus to ANLCA’s PR office, making it one of the most prestigious and respected portfolios within the association. His comportment was exemplary, and he earned honor not by seeking it, but through his refined demeanor and humility,” CONMMEP noted.

While lamenting the loss, the association emphasized that Dr. Okonkwo’s legacy will endure through the memories he created and the lives he touched across the maritime and media sectors.

“He was the people’s favorite, and CONMMEP, alongside the entire maritime media, will miss him dearly. We pray that God grants his family and loved ones the strength to bear this irreparable loss.”

Dr. Obicee Okonkwo’s passing marks the end of an era, but his contributions and exemplary conduct will remain etched in the hearts of maritime stakeholders.
