CONMMEP Inaugurates New Executive Led By Udo Onyeka At Annual General Meeting

The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Thursday, May 1, 2025, in Lagos, ushering in a new era with the inauguration of a fresh executive team led by Comrade Udo Onyeka as President.

In his farewell remarks, the outgoing President, Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, reflected on his three-year tenure, describing it as a period of growth and consolidation. “I am filled with pride and nostalgia because we have achieved a formidable organization under my watch,” he said, while noting some of the association’s key milestones.

The AGM also featured a series of capacity-building lectures aimed at strengthening the professionalism of maritime media practitioners. Dayo Bamgbala, member and Publisher of iReports Online, delivered a presentation on “Maximizing News Websites,”emphasizing the use of digital tools for effective news dissemination. This was followed by a paper titled “The Media and National Security” presented by Chief Darlington Momoh Umoru, Security Expert and Editor-in-Chief of Elation Magazine, who urged journalists to remain conscious of their role in protecting national interests.

Alfred Omenihu, Editor-in-Chief of National Impact Magazine, also took the stage with a presentation on “Opportunities in Core Printing for Media Practitioners,” shedding light on emerging trends in media production and publishing.

In his inaugural address, the newly elected President, Comrade Udo Onyeka, promised to build on past successes and take CONMMEP to new heights. “We aim to establish CONMMEP as the envy of other maritime associations within the next 12 months,” he said, pledging to pursue strategic partnerships and prioritize members’ aspirations.

The newly inaugurated executive includes Femi Okonofua as Vice President, Bolaji Israel as General Secretary, LOD Onyeji as Assistant Secretary, Isaac Ajiboye as Financial Secretary, Adeola Oluwole as Treasurer, Mcanthony Onuoha as Public Relations Officer, Titilayo Olumide as Welfare Officer, and Izuchukwu Ahuchaogu as Provost.

The event concluded with a celebratory lunch, signaling a fresh chapter for CONMMEP as it looks ahead to a renewed drive in advancing maritime journalism in Nigeria.
