The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, recognizing the invaluable contributions of women to society and, more specifically, their increasing role in the maritime sector.
This year’s celebration, themed “Embrace Equity,” highlights the strides made toward gender inclusion while acknowledging the challenges women still face in the industry. In a statement, Alhaji Tunde Umar-Daniah, outgoing President of CONMMEP, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to empowering women in maritime through advocacy and professional support.
“The maritime sector has much to gain from the leadership, innovation, and inclusivity that women bring,” Umar-Daniah said. “As we celebrate their achievements, we also recognize the need for continued efforts to promote gender equality and support women’s professional development.”
CONMMEP is urging industry stakeholders to adopt policies that foster a more inclusive maritime workforce, emphasizing that gender diversity is key to driving economic growth and enhancing decision-making in the sector.
Through media advocacy and training programs, the organization remains dedicated to creating an enabling environment where women can thrive and contribute their unique perspectives to the maritime industry.
