The Congress of Nigerian Maritime Media Practitioners (CONMMEP) has extended its congratulations to Comptroller General of Customs Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR on his one-year anniversary in office, celebrating his impressive performance and notable achievements in transforming the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS).
Since his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Adeniyi has implemented significant changes that have propelled the NCS to new heights. His strategic deployment of officers based on merit and capacity has reinvigorated the service, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
Under Adeniyi’s leadership, the NCS has excelled in the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) assessments, ranking among the top five out of 36 Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This remarkable performance is attributed to the innovative trade facilitation strategies he has introduced, which have significantly boosted revenue, with the NCS generating over ₦4.1 trillion in the past year.
CONMMEP also acknowledges Adeniyi’s robust anti-smuggling measures, which have effectively curtailed the activities of economic saboteurs, particularly those involved in illicit drug trafficking. His administration’s proactive stance has been instrumental in safeguarding Nigeria’s economic interests.
Adeniyi’s emphasis on inter-agency and bilateral cooperation has strengthened relationships across the board, enhancing the NCS’s operational effectiveness. His understanding of the importance of collaboration has fostered a formidable network of mutual support among various stakeholders.
However, CONMMEP urges Adeniyi to remain vigilant against unscrupulous elements within the NCS who may undermine these efforts. The association commends his efforts in decongesting ports and addressing the perennial gridlock on the Tincan/Apapa Port corridor, a milestone achievement accomplished through collaborative efforts with the Nigeria Ports Authority, Lagos State Government, and other partners.
CONMMEP also appreciates President Tinubu for appointing a seasoned Customs officer to lead the NCS. Adeniyi’s rise through the ranks and his subsequent leadership reflect a deep understanding of the service’s operational needs and challenges.
Looking ahead, CONMMEP encourages Adeniyi to intensify efforts in implementing efficient trade facilitation mechanisms to achieve a 24-hour cargo clearance regime at Nigerian ports and border stations, further enhancing the NCS’s efficiency and service delivery.
Once again, CONMMEP extends its heartfelt congratulations to Comptroller General Adeniyi on his outstanding first year in office.
