Comptroller General of Immigration Extends Border Tour To Southwest, Pledges Commitment To e-Border Security

In a continued effort to strengthen Nigeria’s border security and enhance migration management, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nanna Nandap, extended her border assessment tour to Lagos and Ogun States in Southwest Nigeria. The tour is part of the Comptroller General’s broader fact-finding mission aimed at improving border security infrastructure and fostering collaboration among key stakeholders.

During her visit to Lagos, the CGIS engaged in high-level discussions with notable figures, including His Royal Majesty, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. The conversations revolved around how the state government could further ease operations for NIS personnel. Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the Comptroller General’s leadership and expressed the state’s readiness to support the NIS in its efforts to modernize border management.

The CGIS also visited Seme Border, Idiroko, and the NIS Commands in Lagos and Ogun States, where she briefed officers on the latest immigration initiatives aimed at upgrading Nigeria’s border security infrastructure. She reiterated her commitment to the welfare and capacity building of officers, urging them to maintain professionalism in their duties.

As part of the tour, the Comptroller General led a joint security meeting with sister agencies to enhance collaboration in intelligence gathering and information sharing. She emphasized the importance of border communities in supporting national security efforts.

In Ogun State, the CGIS met with traditional rulers, including the Alake of Egbaland, HRM Oba Adedotun Gbadebo III, and the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, HRM Oba Saka Matemilola. Discussions with the Ogun State Government, represented by Deputy Governor Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, centered on providing logistical support and land for the construction of barracks to house NIS officers.

The Comptroller General reaffirmed the NIS’s commitment to digital strategies for enhanced border governance and national security, part of the ongoing drive to modernize Nigeria’s border security infrastructure.

This tour underscores NIS’s dedication to securing Nigeria’s borders and ensuring effective migration management, through improved collaboration, capacity building, and the implementation of modern security technologies.
