The tranquility of a peace mission turned into tragedy as troops of the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army fell victim to a gruesome attack amidst a reported communal clash between Okuama and Okoloba Communities in Ughelli South and Bomadi LGAs of Delta State. The troops, deployed to mediate and maintain peace in the Niger Delta Region, were brutally murdered by armed youth from the Okuama Community in a chilling and heartless manner, further desecrating their remains by tearing out their hearts.

In the aftermath of this appalling act, the Okuama Community, implicated in the atrocity, has resorted to spreading propaganda through media channels instead of cooperating with authorities to apprehend the perpetrators. This blatant attempt to manipulate public opinion and conceal the heinous crime underscores the community’s complicity in the vicious assault against the security forces.

However, the dissemination of falsehoods by these criminals and their associates to justify their actions is futile. Law enforcement agencies remain steadfast in their determination to apprehend the culprits and ensure that they face the full consequences of their barbaric deeds. While reassuring law-abiding citizens of no reprisal actions, efforts to identify and isolate the perpetrators have been intensified.

Lt. Gen. Toareed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, extends heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers and soldiers and has issued clear directives to spare no effort in bringing the perpetrators to justice. Troops are unwavering in their resolve to apprehend the perpetrators, leaving no stone unturned in their pursuit of justice.
