The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede NAM, has reiterated the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of its personnel with the commissioning of the newly remodeled Nigerian Army Post Exchange (NAPEX) Supermarket at Ojo Cantonment, Lagos.
The commissioning, which took place on Wednesday, 19 June 2025, marks a significant milestone in the Army’s ongoing efforts to improve the living standards of its personnel and their families. The facility was renovated under the supervision of the Nigerian Army Welfare Limited by Guarantee (NAWLG).
Representing the COAS at the event was the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, who described the remodeled NAPEX as a vital stride towards enhancing troop welfare and promoting sound administration—both key elements of the COAS’ Command Philosophy.
Major General Mijinyawa emphasized that improving the quality of life for soldiers and their families remains a priority for the Nigerian Army, given the critical role they play in safeguarding national security.
In his welcome address, the Group Managing Director of NAWLG, Major General Ibrahim Taiwo, highlighted the central role of welfare in effective troop management. He noted that the remodeled NAPEX supermarket is fully aligned with the COAS’ vision and would contribute significantly to uplifting the well-being of service personnel and the broader barracks community.
Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of NAPEX, Brigadier General JB Adams, expressed appreciation to the GMD NAWLG for his visionary leadership. He said the new facility would help boost troop morale and enhance their operational effectiveness across the country.
The commissioning ceremony attracted a distinguished audience, including the Commander 9 Brigade, Executive Director of Operations NAWLG, Managing Director NADMACO, senior military officers, and representatives of the Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA) and the Nigerian Army Soldiers Wives Association (NASWA).
The event featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony, unveiling of the commissioning plaque, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs.
