Chief Ibrahim Egungbohun, Chairman of IBD Impex Ltd, has expressed his unwavering support for the Nigerian Association of Social and Resourceful Editors (NASRE) and their humanitarian efforts to assist journalists’ widows, orphans, and veterans facing financial hardships.
Speaking during a meeting with the executive members of NASRE at his Ilaro office on the final day of 2024, Chief Egungbohun praised the association for its caring disposition and commitment to uplifting the welfare of journalists in need. He lauded NASRE’s efforts, particularly its focus on journalists who are experiencing difficulties due to ill-health, financial struggles, or the loss of loved ones.
Moved by the association’s sincerity and dedication, Chief Egungbohun urged Nigerians, both at home and abroad, to continue supporting one another, emphasizing the importance of empathy and collective responsibility.
“I feel for our loving media people who are in need of our show of love. I am imploring fellow Nigerians, in any positive way possible, to rise to the occasion, because we have got to uplift each other as our brother’s keepers,” said Egungbohun.
He emphasized the crucial role of journalists in society, noting that as the fourth estate, their ability to function effectively is vital for maintaining a developmental and beneficial democracy. Chief Egungbohun further stressed that the wellbeing and welfare of journalists should be a collective priority for all Nigerians.
As a devout Muslim, Egungbohun shared his belief in the concept of mutual support, regardless of religious or social status. He reflected on the importance of helping others in their times of need, pointing out that true happiness is found when people support and care for each other.
“Where lies the true happiness when people around you are not happy? I still hold the fact that doing uplift is not always having much to do with giving of money, rather it is making ourselves available to other people in their trying times,” he said.
In closing, Chief Egungbohun reassured NASRE of his continued support, stating, “As you continue in your good work, NASRE, always count on me for my widow’s myth.”
NASRE’s executive members expressed their heartfelt gratitude for Chief Egungbohun’s encouragement and commitment to their cause, vowing to continue their work in improving the welfare of journalists across Nigeria.
