CGC Adeniyi Commissions School, Healthcare Centre In Sagbokoji Under ‘Customs Cares’ Initiative

The Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Adewale Adeniyi, on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, commissioned a newly renovated Local Authority (LA) Primary School and a Primary Healthcare Centre in the Sagbokoji community, Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State. The initiative, undertaken under the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Corporate Social Responsibility programme tagged ‘Customs Cares’, reflects a growing commitment to community development by the Service.

Speaking at the event, CGC Adeniyi said the NCS is determined to support host communities, especially in the areas of education and basic infrastructure. “We are undertaking projects that will have direct impact on our schools and our students,” he said. “We brought school bags, exercise books, textbooks, and sandals for all the pupils of this school. More importantly, we have renovated the entire school infrastructure. I’m happy that through Apapa and the stakeholders, we have been able to deliver on this project.”

He also underscored the relevance of accessible healthcare, describing it as a vital element of the Service’s outreach. “We know the needs of this community are more than what we have done, but we have taken the first step towards entering into an enduring partnership with this community,” he added.

Also speaking, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Apapa Area Command, Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, described the project as a clear demonstration of the Service’s compassion for its host communities. “In the last four weeks, workers have laboured day and night with the active support of our distinguished stakeholders to ensure this project became a reality,” Olomu stated.

In his goodwill message, Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area, Engr. Valentine Buraimoh, praised the NCS for its unprecedented support. “This is the first time we are witnessing uniform men at the helm of affairs engaging in such a project. I’m highly elated and thankful to the NCS for renovating our school and healthcare centre,” he said.

The Headmaster of LA Primary School, Oladeyo Emmanuel, also expressed deep appreciation, stating that the upgrades would significantly boost morale among both teachers and pupils.

The event featured the distribution of educational materials to pupils and concluded with the formal commissioning of the renovated facilities, marking a significant step in the Customs Service’s evolving approach to community impact.
