Call For Fair Rotation of Oyi Chairmanship Position Gains Momentum

Stakeholders from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Oyi Local Government Area (LGA) are calling for adherence to the rotational agreement in appointing the next chairman of the LGA. This call comes after a historical review revealed that the chairmanship position has been alternating between Zone B (Awkuzu) and Zone C (Umunya/Ogbunike/Nkwelle Ezunaka) for the past 12 years. Stakeholders argue that it is now the turn of Zone A (Nteje) to produce the next chairman.

Historical Overview of Chairmanship Appointments:

Zone A – Nteje:
– June 2011: Former Governor Peter Obi appointed Hon. Ik Monua as the Transition Committee (TC) Chairman. Monua served for one year.

Zone B – Awkuzu:
– June 2011 – January 2014:** Hon. Uche Okafor was appointed as Chairman by former Governor Obi, serving for three years. After winning the chairmanship election, he served an additional year before being appointed Special Adviser on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Zone C – Nkwelle Ezunaka:
– 2014: Upon Okafor’s departure, Hon. Maximus Orefo was appointed by former Governor Willie Obiano. Orefo completed the term and served an additional year and some months as TC Chairman.

Zone B – Awkuzu:
– Following Orefo: Hon. Uche Okafor returned as TC Chairman for one year before becoming a Commissioner.

Zone C – Ogbunike:
– Post-Okafor: Dr. Nnamdi Nwadiogbu served as Chairman for four years.

Zone B – Awkuzu:
– Current Appointment: Under Governor Charles Soludo, Hon. Emma Nweke was appointed as TC Chairman and continues to serve.

Appeal for Equitable Rotation:

The stakeholders from Nteje have emphasized the need for fair distribution of leadership roles across the three zones of Oyi LGA. They argue that to maintain unity and equitable representation, the next chairman should emerge from Zone A.

Key Stakeholders’ Support:

Prominent APGA leaders and stakeholders from Nteje have voiced their support for this rotational equity. Notable figures include Ichie BU Chinweze (Onowu Nteje) and various ward chairmen. They have highlighted the importance of adhering to this rotational practice to ensure balanced leadership within the LGA.
