The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Echeng E. Echeng plays host to the Country Representative of the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC) Dr Oliver Stolpe and the National Coordinator of Police Campaign against Cultism and other Vices (POCACOV) CSP Ebere Amaraizu, on Wednesday 22nd September, 2021, at the Command Headquarters, Ovom, Yenagoa. This was contained in a press statement by the Spokesperson of the command, SP Asinim Butswat.
The Country Representative of the United Nations in his address commended the Commissioner of Police on his crime prevention efforts and informed him that the UNODC is in Bayelsa State to carry out community oriented policing activities to improve Safety, peace and security of local communities and its currently working with the Police Campaign against Cultism and other Vices POCACOV to develop a based Crime prevention strategy for the local communities of the Niger Delta Region, but with specific emphasis on Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State.
He further commended the Nigeria Police Force on the POCACOV initiative which has the same vision with the UNODC in terms of community oriented policing approach to solving crimes and also assured the Command of his organisation continued partnership at ensuring the strengthening of stakeholders participation to respond locally to issues of safety, peace and security.
In his response, CP Echeng thanked the Country Representative and stressed the importance of community based Crime prevention activities and also assured him of the commands readiness to partner and actualize the vision of the UNODC on community oriented policing activities.
Highlight of the visit includes the presentation of the POCACOV digest, which features community engagement, strengthening of policing accountability amongst others, to the Commissioner of Police by the POCACOV National Coordinator.
