Barry Showkey Set For Grand Comeback With New Single “ROBOROBO” Dropping May 15

Nigerian music sensation Balogun Adewale Akanji, better known by his stage name Barry Showkey, is set to thrill fans with the release of his new single, “ROBOROBO”, on May 15, 2025. The track marks his highly anticipated return to the music scene after a hiatus, and is poised to rekindle his artistic fire in a bold, refreshing way.

Barry Showkey, the son of the late Fuji music icon Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister (fondly called Alhaji Agba Barusati), carries the rich legacy of a pioneer who created the Fuji music genre. However, Showkey is not content to simply follow in his father’s footsteps—he is carving out a distinct sound of his own, merging traditional Fuji rhythms with modern, genre-blending vibes.

In a pre-release interview, the multi-talented artist described “ROBOROBO” as a personal and symbolic project that reflects resilience, authenticity, and rhythm.

“My father always told me, ‘Focus on your own path, build your legacy, don’t depend on mine.’ That’s the energy behind ROBOROBO,” Barry Showkey shared.

The upcoming single will be distributed by Digital Music Commerce and Exchange (DMCE), making it available on more than 30 global digital music platforms. These include Spotify, Apple Music, Boomplay, YouTube Music, Audiomack, Deezer, TIDAL, Pandora, Amazon Music, and TikTok, among others.

While Barry Showkey hails from a family of music legends—his younger brother Barry Jhay is also a popular name in the Nigerian music industry—he remains committed to building his own path and evolving the Fuji genre in his own voice and style.

“ROBOROBO” is expected to resonate with both loyal Fuji fans and a new generation of music lovers who appreciate the blend of heritage and innovation.

With May 15 fast approaching, fans are counting down to what could be a major turning point in the contemporary Fuji and Nigerian music scene.
