Axe ‘Dangles’ Over 2 Police Commissioners, 128 Others As IGP Orders Review Of Disciplinary Cases Against Them

The fate of two Commissioners of Police (CP) and 128 other senior police officers is currently hanging in the balance as the Force Headquarters, on Tuesday commenced review of all disciplinary cases against them.

Those affected have been asked to appear before the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), convened at the instance of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Usman Alkali Baba.

The Inspector General of Police, has mandated the committee to review all disciplinary cases instituted against the senior police officers.

Those expected to appear before the committee, currently sitting at the conference room if the Force Headquarters, are of the ranks of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above.

The FDC which comprises of the seven Deputy Inspectors-General of Police as arbiters and the Assistant Inspector-General of Police Force Secretary as its secretary, began its session on Tuesday, June, 28, 2022 and will hold till Friday, July 1, 2022.

A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, revealed that a total of 130 Senior Police Officers from all over the country with Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) are expected to appear before the Committee within the period.

He said those having pending disciplinary cases are two Commissioners of Police (CP), three Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACP), 11 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSP), 19 Superintendents of Police (SP), 18 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) and 77 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP).

Adejobi stated that upon conclusion of proceedings and hearing of evidences, recommendations on each matter will be communicated to the Police Service Commission (PSC) for consideration.

“The Inspector-General of Police has expressed confidence in the Deputy Inspectors-General of Police overseeing the Force Disciplinary Committee to ensure dispensation of justice in all causes before them. The IGP equally assures that the Force is deliberately committed to cleaning up its house for a more professional and citizens-focused policing system’ he added.
