Asharami Energy, the upstream subsidiary of Sahara Group, has reiterated its commitment to promoting inclusive growth, local content development, and sustainable operations across Nigeria’s energy sector. The company made this known during the 5th edition of the Nigerian Oil and Gas Opportunity Fair (NOGOF), held in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Leste Aihevba, Chief Technical Officer of Asharami Energy, emphasized the need to deepen indigenous capacity and participation across the oil and gas value chain to enhance national energy security and long-term sector stability. He praised the increasing involvement of Nigerian service providers in critical operations and affirmed Asharami’s leadership in promoting local expertise.

“It is worthy to highlight that Asharami Energy already has close to 100% local content participation, with only a few of the most complex technologies delivered by foreign companies,” Aihevba stated.

“We are not just developing assets—we are developing people, communities, and promoting shared prosperity.”

Aihevba explained that services such as subsurface studies, field development plans, drilling, civil works, and oil infrastructure construction—including flowlines, pipelines, flowstations, roads, and well locations—are handled by local companies. He said Asharami Energy’s collaboration model and capacity-building initiatives are central to its mission of making a responsible impact in the sector.

Differentiating between national local content and community-level participation, Aihevba spotlighted Asharami’s gas-to-power project in the Ajoki community in Edo State. The initiative has delivered uninterrupted power supply to the area, promoting clean energy usage and supporting environmental sustainability. Additionally, he highlighted the company’s partnership with the University of Benin Consultancy Services to provide vocational training to 20 community youths annually in various skill areas.

Beyond energy-focused initiatives, Asharami Energy has invested in infrastructure projects such as road construction in host communities to enhance market access and economic mobility. The company also runs health and education-focused programs aimed at improving the quality of life in its areas of operation.

This year’s NOGOF, themed “Driving Investment and Production Growth: Shaping a Sustainable Future for Nigeria’s Oil and Gas Industry Through Indigenous Capacity Development,” featured high-level discussions and exhibitions designed to spotlight investment opportunities and the role of local content in Nigeria’s energy transition.

Organized biennially by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), NOGOF is a premier industry platform that brings together stakeholders across the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors to explore opportunities and strategies for enhancing local capacity and sustainable development in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
