In a move aimed at boosting morale and improving the welfare of its personnel, the Nigerian Army on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, commissioned two blocks of newly constructed accommodation for soldiers at Dodan Barracks, Obalende, Lagos.

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, who was represented at the commissioning by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa, described the development as a significant milestone in the Nigerian Army’s ongoing efforts to prioritize troop welfare.

Addressing officers and men at the event, the COAS emphasized the importance of decent and conducive living conditions to enhance operational efficiency, discipline, and overall troop readiness. He assured personnel of the Army’s sustained commitment to their welfare.

“The Nigerian Army leadership remains genuinely concerned about the well-being of its personnel. Comfortable accommodation is essential for boosting morale and ensuring effective service delivery,” he stated, while urging the beneficiaries to maintain the facilities properly.

Earlier in his remarks, Commander 81 Division Garrison, Brigadier General Hassan Bukar, lauded the COAS for his relentless efforts toward improving troops’ living conditions. He noted that the new accommodation would not only enhance the quality of life for the personnel but also reinforce the Army’s credibility and internal cohesion.

“This initiative is a testament to the Nigerian Army’s dedication to the welfare of its troops. We deeply appreciate the COAS for his unwavering support and the GOC for his leadership and guidance,” Brigadier General Bukar said.

The commissioning ceremony also featured a guided tour of the new facilities led by Brigadier General Bukar and the Commander 45 Engineer Brigade, Brigadier General M.O. Momoh. Keys were symbolically handed over to selected beneficiaries, who expressed appreciation for the Army’s commitment to their well-being.

The event concluded with a group photograph to commemorate the occasion, marking yet another milestone in the Army’s efforts to provide modern and dignified accommodation for its personnel.
