The Anambra State Police Command is on high alert following a devastating attack by armed insurgents that claimed the lives of two dedicated Police Personnel. The incident, occurring on December 28th, 2023, at approximately 6:30 p.m. in Uga, saw a group of insurgents donned in military attire perpetrate a heinous act.

The gang, appearing to be on a kidnap mission, encountered two vigilant Police officers who were advancing ahead of a convoy, aiming to ease traffic congestion. Upon noticing the officers, the insurgents opened fire, leading to a swift exchange of bullets between both parties. In a bid to safeguard the surrounding motorists trapped in traffic, other officers retaliated cautiously, compelling the assailants to flee the scene.

Responding promptly to the distress call, a police-led mobile Forward Operating Base, actively patrolling during the festive period, swiftly arrived at the location. Their thorough investigation uncovered a Lexus SUV used by the assailants, dismantling an improvised explosive device within the vehicle. Furthermore, an AK-47 RIFLE belonging to one of the deceased officers was also recovered.

In the wake of this tragedy, Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, acknowledged the relentless dedication of all personnel in ensuring the safety of Anambra State. Despite the loss suffered by their colleagues from the Enugu State Command, CP Adeoye urged the officers not to be disheartened but to draw strength from their valor in confronting the criminal group.

Expressing condolences to the families of the fallen officers and the Enugu State Police Command, CP Adeoye pledged that their sacrifices would not be in vain. He assured the deployment of technology to track down the perpetrators responsible for this brazen attack on law enforcement.

Amidst the grief, CP Adeoye encouraged the resilient people of Anambra State not to succumb to fear but to continue with their planned festive activities. He urged officers and citizens alike to remain vigilant, emphasizing the commitment of the Police Command in ensuring the safety of everyone.
