ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: CISLAC Urges Action To Support Families Of Fallen Heroes

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) has called on the Nigerian government and stakeholders to take concrete steps in honoring the sacrifices of the nation’s fallen heroes and supporting their families. This was emphasized in a statement by CISLAC’s Executive Director, Comrade Auwal Ibrahim Musa (Rafsanjani), as the country commemorated this year’s Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

CISLAC paid tribute to the gallant men and women who laid down their lives for Nigeria’s peace, unity, and sovereignty. The organization highlighted the need for actions that go beyond symbolic gestures, urging the government to ensure that the families of deceased service members receive their entitlements promptly and are supported with sustainable welfare initiatives.

“While we celebrate the courage and selflessness of our fallen heroes, it is essential to go beyond symbolic gestures. Their families, who continue to bear the burden of their loss, deserve tangible support and recognition. It is not only a national duty but a moral imperative to ensure these families are cared for with dignity and respect,” Comrade Rafsanjani stated.

CISLAC outlined key areas of focus for the government to address, including the timely payment of benefits and pensions, which it described as critical to alleviating the financial hardship faced by grieving families. The organization also advocated for empowerment programs for widows, such as vocational training and access to small-scale business opportunities, to promote self-reliance.

Educational support for the children of fallen heroes was another priority highlighted by CISLAC, which called for scholarships and initiatives to provide quality education and better opportunities for the dependents of deceased service members. The organization also emphasized the importance of granting national recognition and inclusion to the families of fallen heroes, urging the government to celebrate their contributions to Nigeria’s stability and security.

Furthermore, CISLAC stressed the need for stronger collaboration between civil society organizations and the government to monitor and implement policies aimed at improving the welfare of these families.

“Our fallen heroes have paid the ultimate price for the peace and security we enjoy today. Their sacrifices must not go unrecognized, and their families must not be forgotten. Armed Forces Remembrance Day is a call to action for us all to uphold the legacy of these brave men and women by supporting their loved ones in every possible way,” Comrade Musa concluded.

CISLAC reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for policies that ensure the welfare of those who have sacrificed for Nigeria’s unity and security. As the nation honors its fallen heroes, the organization urged Nigerians to collectively pledge support for their families and preserve their legacy.
