The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has responded to a viral video alleging the unjust incarceration of Seaman Abbas Haruna, a naval rating, who has reportedly been held for six years. In a press release dated September 15, 2024, the DHQ assured the public of its commitment to upholding justice, fairness, and the rule of law within the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The military court-martial process, according to the DHQ, is conducted with meticulous attention to fairness and equality, following established military procedures and legal guidelines. The Defence Headquarters emphasized that the process ensures equal opportunity for all personnel involved.

Following the emergence of the allegations, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter. The DHQ confirmed that the findings of the investigation will be made public once completed, in line with the commitment to transparency.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information, urged the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while the investigation is ongoing. He reassured Nigerians that the Armed Forces will prioritize a swift and transparent inquiry to ensure the truth is revealed and justice is served.

The outcome of the investigation is highly anticipated, as the public looks to the Armed Forces to maintain the principles of justice and fairness.
