The Anambra State Police Command has condemned an attack by armed arsonists on the Ogbaru Local Government Area Headquarters Secretariat. Commissioner of Police CP Nnaghe Obono Itam described the early morning assault, which led to the destruction of four vigilante patrol vehicles, as an act of cowardice. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
According to preliminary reports, the attackers arrived in large numbers, using motorcycles and a vehicle, and began firing indiscriminately. Vigilante operatives mounted a strong defense until the police response team arrived, causing the assailants to flee due to the superior firepower of the security forces. However, the attackers managed to set four operational vehicles ablaze, causing significant damage.
Following the incident, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations led a joint security force, including the Army, Navy, and other agencies, to the scene for an immediate assessment. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the perpetrators.
CP Nnaghe Obono Itam praised the security operatives for their bravery and assured the public of continued and enhanced efforts to combat criminal activities in the state.
