Arewa Economic Forum Expresses Support For Customs Boss

The Chairman of the Arewa Economic Forum (AEF), Ibrahim Shehu Dandakata, has officially declared the Forum’s unwavering support for the Acting Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR.

This endorsement comes in recognition of Adeniyi’s notable dedication to enhancing border security and trade facilitation in Northern Nigeria.

In a meeting held on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the Customs Headquarters in Abuja, Dandakata expressed the Forum’s absolute confidence in Adeniyi’s commitment to implementing policies that will advance the region’s economic development.

He praised the late Former Comptroller-General of Customs, Dikko Inde, for his contributions to the region and expressed optimism that Adeniyi’s administration would surpass previous achievements.

Dandakata stated, “Mr. Adeniyi swiftly took action on our concerns, which demonstrates his dedication to sustainable and far-reaching fiscal policies that will foster business growth, particularly in the agricultural sector.”

During the meeting, Dandakata commended Adeniyi for taking proactive steps to improve conditions in the North, underscoring that Nigeria now enjoys a responsive government.

He emphasized the importance of fostering cross-border trade in Ilela to bolster the region’s economy and urged Adeniyi to address the current challenges faced by Inland Dry Ports in the North, which he described as essential for regional businesses.

Dandakata extended an invitation to Adeniyi to participate in an upcoming Economic Summit scheduled before the year’s end. He assured that the summit would focus on promoting investment in Northern Nigeria.

In response, Acting Comptroller-General Bashir Adeniyi emphasized his administration’s commitment to enhancing trade in the North, recognizing its pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic prosperity.

Adeniyi discussed the impact of the situation in the Niger Republic on trade in Nigeria and stressed the importance of peace in the region to facilitate trade talks. He assured the AEF delegation that Customs would prioritize addressing the issues concerning Inland Ports and collaborate with the Federal Government to expedite necessary actions.

Regarding the Forum’s forthcoming Economic Summit, Adeniyi expressed Customs’ keen interest in participating, citing the significant economic potential in the North that, if harnessed, could contribute substantially to the nation’s economic development.
