The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) achieved a historic milestone on June 14, 2024, with a daily revenue collection of N17,903,312,598, the highest in its history. This remarkable feat underscores the command’s commitment to revenue generation, trade facilitation, and anti-smuggling efforts.
Comptroller Babatunde Olomu, the Customs Area Controller of the Apapa Command, hailed the achievement as a significant step towards more substantial revenue collections and operational successes. Having assumed office only a month ago, Olomu emphasized that the officers and men under his leadership are determined to maintain and exceed this performance level.
“This unprecedented collection is a testament to our dedication and a way of celebrating one year in office of Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR,” Olomu said. “His inspiring and motivating leadership has greatly contributed to our success.”
In addition to the record-breaking revenue collection, the Apapa Command also intercepted two containers loaded with used clothing and Crusader soap, highlighting its ongoing commitment to anti-smuggling operations. These items are often targeted in smuggling activities due to their high demand and potential to undermine local industries.
Comptroller Olomu urged port users to adhere strictly to lawful operations, including compliance with import and export guidelines, timely and accurate payment of duties, and regular engagement in activities that promote national interests.
The Apapa Command’s achievements have garnered praise and are seen as a positive indicator of the effectiveness of current leadership and operational strategies. The NCS, under the guidance of Comptroller General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, continues to prioritize initiatives that enhance revenue collection and curb illegal activities, ensuring the integrity and efficiency of Nigeria’s ports.
