The Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria (TOAN), Anambra State chapter, has officially rejected the resignation of its chairman, Barrister Sylvester Chibuike Obiora. The decision was announced following an emergency state meeting in Awka, where members unanimously dismissed his resignation as baseless and unsupported by the association’s constitution.
Barrister Obiora, known for pioneering tricycle operations in Anambra and later becoming a trained lawyer, had initially stepped down citing his new role as the National Legal Adviser of TOAN. However, Dede Uzor A. Uzor, TOAN’s Media Officer, stated that the constitution does not require state officers to resign upon assuming national roles.
“The purported resignation of Barrister Obiora is null and void,” said Uzor. “There is no constitutional basis for his resignation, and as such, it has been rejected by all Keke riders and members of the TOAN Anambra State Executive.”
Members at the meeting insisted that Obiora’s tenure had not yet expired and emphasized the necessity for him to continue his duties without delay. The association credits him with fostering peaceful coexistence among members, contrasting sharply with the previous regime’s thuggish disposition.
The association and its stakeholders have rallied behind Obiora, urging continued support for his leadership to maintain and build on the gains achieved during his tenure.
