In a bid to reinforce community security across Anambra State, Commissioner of Police (CP) Nnaghe Obono Itam continued his security advocacy efforts with a recent visit to Njikoka Local Government Area. On November 8, 2024, CP Itam led a strategic meeting with local leaders, vigilante groups, and stakeholders, urging greater collaboration to tackle security challenges in the state.
During the session, CP Itam emphasized the importance of community policing, calling for a unified, honest approach to identify security concerns and implement proactive measures. He highlighted the shared responsibility of tackling the “common enemy” that disrupts public safety, citing issues like the Monday sit-at-home orders that have stifled local businesses and restricted movement.
“We must reclaim our communities from criminal elements,” CP Itam stated, encouraging stakeholders to join the police in creating a secure environment for Ndi Anambra.
Local Government Chairman Hon. Bar. Chinedu Donminc Ononibu voiced his commitment to maintaining the security initiatives within the community. Other attendees included Deputy Chairman Iyom Fidelia, traditional rulers, members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and local vigilante members, all united in support of the Commissioner’s call for active local engagement in security matters.
The Commissioner also paid a courtesy visit to HRH Obi Sir Patrick Mabamalu Okeke, the Igwe of Abagana, seeking his support to foster communication channels that reinforce peace and security. CP Itam praised the Igwe’s role as a custodian of cultural heritage and urged him to champion the advocacy for unity and safety within the community.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State, emphasized that the Commissioner’s outreach is part of a broader strategy to sustain peace across Anambra through active community involvement.
