The security operatives stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB), on the evening of July 11, 2023, at around 8:30 pm, encountered a suspicious incident while patrolling the Uga-Ezinifite Expressway.
They attempted to stop two vehicles, a highlander jeep and a white Lexus 350 without a license plate, that were evading security screening.
The joint security forces immediately initiated a pursuit of the vehicles and gun battle ensued between the operatives and the dangerous gang, resulting in the gang members abandoning the two vehicles and fleeing on foot.
Upon conducting a search of the vehicles, the operatives discovered two automatic pump-action guns, eleven live cartridges, and a bag containing a walkie-talkie, a cell phone, and other incriminating items. Additionally, blood stains were found on all the vehicles, indicating that the criminals had sustained bullet wounds as they escaped.
The Command took this opportunity to urge both public and private hospitals to admit and report anyone seeking treatment for bullet wounds or related injuries to the nearest police station.
“And we have no delight if anyone loses their life but if that is what it takes to protect the people of Anambra State, we will stop at no obstacle to achieve this mandate given to us by the Inspector-General of Police” CP Aderemi Adeoye
In a separate incident that occurred late yesterday, July 11, 2023, at 8:13 pm, the police collaborated with Anambra State Vigilantes at Ichida bus stop along the Ichida-Igboukwu Expressway to rescue a kidnap victim. They successfully neutralized two members of the notorious gang involved in the kidnapping and recovered one AK47 rifle, two pump-action guns, two AK47 magazines, thirty-two live ammunition, and the victim’s highlander jeep.
Preliminary information suggests that the gang, consisting of eight members, operated with two vehicles, a grey highlander jeep, and a white Lexus 350. They had abducted the victim in her own Ash Highlander jeep. Fortunately, the victim was rescued unharmed and has already been debriefed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, issued a stern warning to the criminals in the state, urging them to abandon their unlawful activities and take advantage of the opportunities provided by the State Government to engage in legitimate means of survival. Failure to do so would result in discomfort and consequences for their criminal actions.
