The Anambra State Government has been urged to disarm the Anambra Vigilant Group (AVG) operatives who were loyal to the late Senator Ifeanyi Uba. This call comes amid concerns about potential security breaches in the state.

In a statement issued from Awka, the Anambra Security Network (ASN) highlighted the urgent need to address the situation to prevent misuse of firearms by these vigilante members. The ASN expressed concerns that the continued possession of arms by AVG operatives could lead to criminal activities and compromise the overall security of the state.

Col. Jude Obi (Rtd), President of the ASN, emphasized that the presence of armed vigilantes without regular remuneration poses a serious risk. “Allowing these operatives to retain their weapons without receiving their statutory monthly salary can lead to insecurity,” said Col. Obi. “The lack of financial support might drive them to misuse their arms for personal gain, further endangering the security of the state.”

The ASN also suggested an alternative solution, recommending that the state government incorporate these operatives into the mainstream State AVG. This integration would facilitate better monitoring of their activities and ensure more effective oversight.

In conclusion, the ASN’s statement calls for immediate action to either disarm the AVG operatives or integrate them into a regulated framework to safeguard Anambra State’s security.
