Anambra Residents Show Renewed Commitment To End Criminal Threats, Police Assures Continued Support

The Anambra State Police Command has reported a growing resolve among residents to resist the continued threats posed by criminal elements, particularly the disruptions caused by the Monday Sit-At-Home order, which has long hampered peace and economic activities in the state.

Following a fresh security assessment under the ongoing Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping initiative, the police revealed that residents across the state have expressed exhaustion over the actions of criminal elements and are now showing increased willingness to collaborate with security agencies to restore normalcy.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, commended the resilience of the people and their collective stand against those who aim to destabilize the state.

“The Command is pleased with the renewed zeal shown by Ndi Anambra in rejecting criminal intimidation and economic sabotage,” the statement read. “There is a growing collaboration between the public and security operatives to expose criminal hideouts and restore peace.”

CP Orutugu further assured that the police, alongside other security agencies, would continue to implement intelligence-driven and joint patrol operations across strategic locations including Awka, Nnewi, Ihiala, Onitsha, Ogidi, and Otuocha. These areas are being monitored closely with Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and rapid response units on standby.

The Commissioner reiterated the force’s commitment to fostering community engagement, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring a secure environment for business and daily life.

The Operation Udo Ga Chi – Zero Kidnapping initiative, launched to tackle violent crimes and kidnapping, remains central to the state’s security strategy. The Police Command calls on citizens to continue sharing credible information and to remain vigilant as efforts to reclaim the state’s peace intensify.
