The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has vowed to apprehend the armed men responsible for the unprovoked attack that claimed the lives of four vigilante operatives and left two others injured on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The attack began at 8:45 a.m. at Ekeagu Abatete, where gunmen in unregistered Lexus 330 and Honda FJ Cruiser SUVs shot and killed three members of a vigilante group and injured a civilian. While fleeing, the assailants struck again at Ukpo Junction in Dunukofia Local Government Area, where they killed another vigilante member, injured one more person, and set two vehicles ablaze despite being pursued by police responders.
The remains of the deceased have been recovered, and the injured are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
CP Itam, while expressing his condolences to the families, friends, and communities of the victims, described the attack as barbaric and assured the public that the police command would leave no stone unturned in its quest to bring the criminals to justice.
“The Command shall fish out the perpetrators and ensure they face the full wrath of the law,” CP Itam affirmed.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated the commitment of the Anambra State Police Command to providing updates as further developments unfold.
