Police operatives in Anambra State successfully foiled an attempted abduction of a foreign national by armed secessionist members in Ogbunka village on the morning of October 6th, 2024. The officers engaged the attackers in a gunfight, ultimately rescuing the VIP. Two officers, who sustained gunshot wounds during the confrontation, safely escorted the foreigner to safety and are currently in stable condition, receiving treatment at a hospital.
Efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the armed group responsible for the attempted kidnapping.
In a related development, on the evening of the same day, a distress call alerted police operatives attached to Nimo Police Station about a suspected cult clash in Umuka, Nawfia. Upon arrival, the officers found four lifeless bodies with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims, identified as Ebuka Nwaonkwube Ekenta, Nnatuanya Junior (A.K.A Starboy), Aniemena (A.K.A Osama), and Ahmed Auwal, were notorious cultists involved in rival group clashes. Their bodies have been deposited in the morgue, and joint patrols with the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) have been intensified to prevent further violence in the area.
In another disturbing case, police are investigating the brutal murder of a 17-year-old girl, Chinasa Adigwe, whose body was discovered in a bush at Omasi village with her private parts mutilated. Authorities suspect the killing was for ritual purposes. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has ordered a thorough investigation into the heinous crime and vowed to bring those responsible to justice. The body has been recovered and deposited in the morgue, while the CP expressed his condolences to the family and community of the deceased.
