Anambra State Police Command, in collaboration with local vigilante groups, successfully dismantled a dangerous insurgency gang, resulting in the recovery of weapons, ammunition, and the arrest of two suspects.
The operation unfolded during a joint patrol in Awka-Etiti, Idemili South LGA, where vigilant police operatives, working alongside local vigilantes, intercepted the heavily armed gang with a yet-to-be-uncovered mission. A pursuit ensued, leading to the hoodlums’ vehicle getting stuck in a ditch. Following a fierce shootout, two gang members were apprehended, and four AK-47 Rifles were seized. Additionally, a Toyota Highlander SUV with registration number Lagos GGE 408 GZ was recovered.
In a related incident, another police team, in collaboration with local vigilantes, intercepted a Toyota Venza with registration number Lagos EKY 746 JB at Neni in Anaocha LGA. The driver fled upon sighting the joint team. A thorough search of the vehicle yielded 34 live cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, provided operational guidance during both operations and commended all personnel involved for their discipline and operational effectiveness. He directed the Rapid Response Squad at Awkuzu to take over the investigation of both cases, emphasizing their potential connection.
CP Adeoye affirmed that Anambra State would be an inhospitable environment for criminal gangs, warning that law enforcement would make the state too hot for any criminals unless they are prepared to face the consequences.
