In a significant operation, officers from the Anambra State Police Command successfully dismantled a four-man armed gang in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area. The gang, which had boarded a commercial bus from Nnewi on Sunday, January 14, 2024, met their end at a police checkpoint during a routine search.
As the gang was stopped for inspection, one member disembarked and brandished a Barreta pistol. In response, the vigilant police personnel swiftly neutralized the armed individual. A subsequent search of their bag revealed a concealed dagger, further underscoring the potential threat they posed.
Commending the officers for their alertness, Commissioner of Police CP Aderemi Adeoye has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take charge of the case, ensuring a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the armed gang’s activities.
CP Adeoye has also ordered the immediate release of two elderly passengers who had boarded the bus at a different location, emphasizing the commitment to safeguarding innocent citizens.
In a statement, DSP Tochi Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer for Anambra State Police Command in Awka, assured the people of Anambra that the police force remains steadfast in fulfilling its duty to protect the lives and property of law-abiding citizens in the state. The successful operation underscores the commitment to maintaining peace and security within the community.
