Anambra Police, SWAN To Organize Sports Competitions To Strengthen Community Relations

The Anambra State Police Command is set to collaborate with the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Anambra State Chapter, to organize sports competitions aimed at strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the public.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc MNIPS PhD, made this known on Monday, March 17, 2025, while receiving SWAN members at his office in Awka. He emphasized that the initiative would foster social cohesion and improve communication between the police and the public, particularly within market communities and other relevant stakeholders.

“This initiative will not only enhance our relationship with the public but also promote a sense of community bonding and trust. Sports have a unique way of uniting people, and we believe this will create a positive and engaging environment for meaningful interaction,” CP Orutugu stated.

In response, the Chairman of SWAN Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Chimezie Ananso, expressed appreciation to the CP for his willingness to collaborate and assured the association’s readiness to work with the command in actualizing the vision.

Discussions are currently ongoing between the police and SWAN to finalize the proposal, determine participants, and establish a theme for the competition.

CP Orutugu reiterated his commitment to community policing and public engagement, emphasizing that such partnerships play a vital role in curbing violent crimes and enhancing security in the state.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, reaffirmed that the initiative aligns with the command’s broader efforts to build trust and foster collaboration with key stakeholders in Anambra State.
